five on friday | princeton child photographer

I’m back this week to finish off what I made note of last week in #5.

1. I spilled some guilty musical pleasures last week, but I still have more to share! It’s been years now since I last watched American Idol (I think Carrie Underwood was the last season we watched). I had a roommate in college who was obsessed and she got us addicted to it. The top two this past year have really captured my heart from performing on Ellen. So my other two guilty pleasures include Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. Such catchy songs, even if the lyrics are awful!

2. Have you heard Ugly Betty has been canceled? It breaks my heart to see it go off the air. It’s one of only a handful of shows Anthony and I enjoy watching together because all the others have been canceled (Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies). Why does ABC do this to us?

3. I’m participating in a Biggest Loser challenge with 30+ photographers across the country and it really is pushing me. I’m participating because I need that push to get to the gym and it’s working. A link to this blog was posted and I have to say I love so many of these recipes. I think we’ve had at least one each night this week. So yummy and healthy (although I’m not sure how many weight watcher points are allowed each day).

4. I’m thinking of all my Oklahoma friends and family who are enduring a brutal ice storm right now that will potentially have snow coming today. Hoping everyone has electricity.

5. Here is a little teaser of one sample product that I think all my clients will love. I have another blog post coming of all the samples I’ve received over the past few weeks.

Kim, that looks AWESOME! I think I need to have one of those on hand as well. Very cool. Good luck with the BL!

Nicole - January 30, 2010 - 1:42 am

I’m a big Ugly Betty fan and I hadn’t heard that yet. Phooey… yet they have kept around LOST for many years even though it’s, um, dare I say, pointless (but yes, I still watch religiously).

The storyboard is fantastic!! Love it!

Becky - January 30, 2010 - 7:30 am

That storyboard rocks!!! I LOVE it.

shannon’s shower | princeton event photographer

Saturday afternoon Jeanie & I co-hosted a baby shower for our friend Shannon and Lucas. S + L are not finding out the sex of the baby (I’m pulling for a girl although the census is boy) so we did a green/brown theme (which is perfect because that’s sorta the colors they are sticking with for the nursery).

Some detail shots (the favors were Bath & Body Work hand sanitizer because you want to have clean hands when visiting a new baby!)

The super cute diaper cake made by Shannon C.

Opening gifts!

The entire party minus Katie who had to leave early to pick her husband up from work. Yay for the camera self timer (ignore the fact that the front row isn’t even in focus).

wine | princeton photographer

5 years ago this June, Anthony and I took our honeymoon in the Sonoma Valley area of California. This is when we truly fell in love with wine. We came back thinking we were wine connoisseurs (ha! to think how naive we were!) and enjoy a glass occasionally. The problem for me is I love to have one glass and then a few days later have another. I’m not a huge fan of leaving white wine in the frig opened for days at a time. I think it becomes much more bitter and unpleasant.

I found a solution – Black Box wines. The last time we bought a box was in red (several years ago) and I’m not even sure they had whites yet. A few weeks ago I was browsing the wine store at my favorite grocer Wegmans and what do I see but a Pinot Grigio Black Box wine. HEAVEN! It has the right amount of sweetness and tart that I found in my pinot g’s. And so much classier to drink out of this box than the normal boxed wines.

(I apologize for all the kitchen garb in the first photo; when you have a tiny kitchen as ours is you make do!)

Thanks for the tip! I, too, am a glass-of-pinot-every-once-in-awhile girl, so this sounds perfect.

Lori - January 25, 2010 - 12:04 pm

I love black box too! I’d forgotten about it actually. Thank you for the reminder ๐Ÿ™‚

kelly g - January 25, 2010 - 12:18 pm

I knew I liked you for a reason…Wegman’s and white wine!! LOL! Wegman’s is my favorite grocer, but we can’t buy wine in stores here (boo). Thanks for the tip on the wine, though….I’ll have to check out our state store and see if they have it!

Christie Adams - January 26, 2010 - 9:57 am

you are so lucky to have a wegmans by you! I used to love going there in college but we don’t have any up here.

Kim - January 26, 2010 - 10:02 am

Kelly – they just started selling alcohol in the store but forever you had to go next door to purchase it. Christie – I know its going to be hard to leave because I’m so attached to Wegmans!

s family | princeton family photographer

The minute I walked into this family’s home, I could feel the excitement and apprehension about getting photos taken. Soft soulful music was playing throughout the house while everyone was putting the finishes touches on their outfits. The minute I saw the girls’ outfits I was tickled. They were full of color (hello bright pink, blue, brown, mutlicolored tights!) and ready to put on their modeling faces. I love capturing each child individually before doing family shots as this allows them to get to know me and relax a bit in front of the camera. These four had no problems with the camera at all.

All of them had such stories to tell with their eyes, but especially Damali (2nd photo). This was her fierce, supermodel look and I love it.

I love that Dafina & Dinari have the same smile, with the teeth clinched together. What five year old does not do that?

I love sibling shots that are fun and different. Thank you guys for being willing participants on a day when you wanted to get to soccer practice!

five on friday | princeton family photographer

Five on Friday is BACK!

1. Did you check this post about helping Haiti rise? If not, please do and feel free to purchase a tshirt. 100% of the proceeds goes to the charity.

2. Wednesday night we happened to catch the Nightly News w/Brian Williams. The last story of the broadcast was about the hundreds of thousands of orphan children in Haiti. It pulled at my heart strings, more so than any other coverage I’ve seen. I’ve been thinking non-stop about the children down there. If we could feasible do it (aka not live in a 900 sq. ft. apartment while Anthony is finishing his PhD) then I’d do everything in my power to adopt one of those children. I know the process is lengthy and costly but man I can’t stop thinking about them.

3. I found this blog about a family who is in the process of adopting their 4th child from Haiti. Mom and baby daughter were there when the earthquake hit. Everyone is alright, but please go read her blog and offer support. Hopefully they will get their sweet son soon.

4. I’ve been ordering tons of samples to bring to my sessions. I’m excited to share them with all my clients soon. If you want to see photos, I’m more than happy to send them along in the meantime.

5. Have you heard of Matt Morris? If not, you really should hear his music. Its soft and powerful! Bloodline is one of a handful that really move me. I am also obsessed with Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johannson’s latest album “Break Up”. My latest guilty pleasure in music is Lady Gaga. That girl is brilliant and every time I hear an interview with her, it makes me respect her even more. The next installment of five on friday will include two other musically guilty pleasures (if you follow me on twitter you probably already know this tidbit about me).

A little something fun from our last night in Nashville. Around 9pm, Anthony & I walked over to Opry Mills to grab a drink & some nachos at Dave & Busters since I hadn’t had anything for dinner. On our way back, I saw this big Snoopy house from the ICE! presentation so we busted out the trusty iphone. Enjoy!
