katie’s headshots | princeton commercial photographer

What happens when you put together a PhD spouse who is a photographer with a PhD student who needs photos – you get laughter and fun! Katie is working on her PhD at Princeton Seminary and is frequently asked to speak at youth conferences and the like and needed some professional photos for brochures, web, etc. Here is a small sampling of this free-spirited, beautiful lady!

If you or someone you know needs headshots, I do offer them. Email me for booking and details.

anthony’s birthday | new york city adventures

Anthony and I went in to NYC once again on Wednesday to do some birthday celebrating. We went practically as far as you can go on Manhattan to The Cloisters which is a magnificent place to visit. Anthony is currently in study mode while preparing for 3 comprehensive exams in September – he’s been reading about the medieval period and religion. We saw many pieces of art that directly relate to what he is reading. He even got his iphone out many times to grab photos throughout the day which is not like him at all! He leaves all the photo taking to me.

For all the photogs out there, why yes that is Anthony sporting the shootsac for me! Looks great on him if I do say so myself!

We went to Morningside Heights to walk around Columbia University, Union Theological Seminary, and Riverside Church. These were places that we would probably not take out-of-towners, but places Anthony definitely wanted to see. It was his day so we did!

After visiting Morningside Heights, we stopped for dinner at a mexican place near Central Park. We then made our way through Central Park to get in line to see Comedy Central Park put on by the NYC Parks department and SummerStage. As we were walking, we saw a group of people, bright lights, etc. Not paying attention (my camera was in my hands) a man told me to not use my flash – okay! We discovered that they were filming Friends with Benefits with Justin Timberlake. That’s them filming and JT in the white shirt (on the right). I was amazed by the paparazzi that were out there with their massive gear. Must say that was my first experience with the paps!

And lastly the reason we went into NYC! Some “illegal” photos of John Oliver and Lewis Black from the Daily Show with Jon Stewart performing at Comedy Central Park. We weren’t suppose to take any photos during the performance but I snapped these quickly!

Such a great trip!! You look ADORABLE too!!!! Such great pics!

Shannon - July 26, 2010 - 8:27 am

What a great time! It’s crazy to think that last summer Lucas was working right next to Riverside Church. We spent a lot of time up in that area. And a JT sighting?!?! That’s big time! So glad you enjoyed it all!

obsessions + a giveaway | princeton child photographer

I have just a “few” obsessions currently. One is my new Le Creuset dutch oven in red! This was my anniversary present (traditionally Anthony and I don’t exchange gifts, but I felt it was now or never to get one of these beasts!)

I was at Home Goods one day (that place is dangerous!!) and found these awesome glass containers for leftovers. I have stopped microwaving items in plastic and this is a great alternative for times when I take my lunch to work that needs reheating. And I love the semi-curve on the bottom. Just the little things in life!

Now these are revolutionary in my opinion! I also picked these up at Home Goods, but I was in Bed, Bath, & Beyond yesterday and saw they carry them too. We have to make our own ice (since I’ve lived on my own, I’ve had one place that had an ice maker – such a luxury!) and I swear no matter how sturdy the ice trays are I break them immediately. In come these genius plastic ice trays. They are flimsy and square – the ice comes out with no problem. No more breaking trays AND the cubes are actually cube! Gotta say I love seeing them nicely lined in the bin!

Here is YOUR chance to win!

(I wish I had the money to give someone the Le Creust, but it took 5 years before I could even afford one!)

The winner will receive a $15 gift card to Home Goods to purchase whatever suits their fancy!

How to enter:
1. Like Kim Schmidt Photography on Facebook
2. Come back and leave a comment/some love here (comments left on facebook will not count)
3. Get an extra entry for tweeting or facebook-ing about this giveaway. (you can have up to 3 chances to win)
4. You have until Thursday July 15th at noon. At that time, I will use random.org to draw a winner!

Kelly G is the winner! Congrats and thanks to all who entered!

4th of July in Naples, Florida

Our last full day in Florida was the 4th of July. Again the weather was rainy and stormy and I was for sure the fireworks were going to be canceled. The sun did make an appearance right before sunset. Luckily I ventured to the beach before the sun went down beyond Naples Pier. HELLO gorgeous light!!! I seriously love this first shot. This is almost a SOOC shot (meaning I did very little to it in Lightroom/Photoshop).

I know this is a tad dark of Anthony and I – that’s what happens when you put your camera on auto and pray it turns out. I like the photo anyways!

Some of the cousins + my father!

That’s a LOT of people waiting to watch fireworks!!! (and for the record I don’t know any of these people – guess I should have gotten a photo of the families together)

so fun…looks like a great day!!!

florida wedding festivities

I didn’t take any photos at the ceremony or reception. I wanted to have a good time and allow the professionals they hired get the photos. So there are lots of family photos during the cocktail hour. The weather pretty much the entire week was gloomy, lots of overcast-ness and rainy more than the normal afternoon showers. Thankfully the rain held off for the outdoor cocktail hour which allowed us to get some nice photos of the extended family.

The nightly photo! Earlier that morning we hit an outlet mall and found this dress for $40. Felt it was perfect compliment to Anthony’s attire. And finally got a photo of the girls!

SISTERS!

That look on Josh’s face melts my heart!

Family photo!

The Sallee Family (we are missing a few, but that’s alright!)

Aunt Patty & Uncle Bill

My parents

Some of the men folk!

Lastly where the cocktail hour was – poolside!

Come back tomorrow for the last post including photos of the house we stayed in. It was heavenly!!!

Beautiful family photos. Looks like it was the perfect light for pictures!

florida pre-wedding festivities

Anthony and I arrived back in Princeton late Monday afternoon (after stopping at IKEA and Tony Luke’s in Philly) from Florida. Wow is it hot here! I was definitely not expecting to come back to 100 degree temperatures. We also came home to zero internet in our apartment. Unfortunately we are the mercy of the seminary as they provide it for us. They are about to start work on the new apartments and this work is necessary (so they say). They say that it can be up to 10 business days before we get it back. Please let’s hope it doesn’t take that long!!! Lots of photos in this post. Stop by tomorrow as I’ll have more photos from the wedding day and the day after.

Our first full day in Naples, we had dinner over at my aunt + uncle’s place. Uncle Pete was grilled, everything under control (as seen in the first photo!). Everyone abandons the grill for a few minutes, I look over to see the flames (as seen in the second photo while my father goes inside for who knows what!) The chicken that was on the grill was very crisp – gave a whole new meaning to charbroiled!

We attended the bridesmaid luncheon thrown by Allison’s aunt at the Sea Salt Restaurant. Here is my mom, aunt, cousin and other aunt.

Mother of Groom Jane with Mother of Bride Mary

Grandma Virginia, Allison, and Jane

On our way to the rehearsal dinner

The rehearsal dinner was at the beautiful Ridgway Bar & Grill in downtown Naples. Perfect setting to honor the beautiful couple.

My father is quite the ladies man. He loves taking photos with beautiful woman! Mother of the Bride Mary and my father!

And we add in Allison!

I handed my camera over to my 11 year old cousin and she snapped this photo. Not too shabby.

The Gray Family

My cousin the groom listening to toasts

I love these next two photos of Allison listening to toasts. You are beautiful woman!

My aunt gave a very touching toast and I love this moment between her and her soon-to-be daughter in law.

Come back tomorrow – there will be lots more photos of the wedding day!
