rachel’s bat mitzvah | new york event photographer

The beautiful Rachel celebrated her Bat Mitzvah this weekend in the Hunter, New York. Let me tell you, I have never been that far north and WOW! It was a gorgeous drive with incredible views and hello mountains! I know they don’t compare to the Rockies but they are still spectacular nonetheless (being from the flat part of the country anything larger than a hill is awe-inspiring!) I’m already planning a trip for Anthony and I, maybe in January or February.

Hunter Synagogue was founded in 1909 and is the cutest synagogue I’ve ever seen.

Congratulations Rachel on your Bat Mitzvah!

Rachel also has a love for animals and at the very end the Rabbi asked her what her favorite animal was. She gave it some thought, before she could answer, he said “of course it’s the camel!” I love this photo because it totally envelopes the entire weekend – lots of laughter, jokes, and an overall grand time!

We took the celebration over to the Cooper Tree Restaurant at the base of Hunter Mountain. Hello cooper tree in the middle of the room!

It didn’t take much convincing to get these girls to agree to an impromptu session outside! Love the bright socks and kayne glasses.

It’s not a Jewish celebration without the Hora! Everyone was on the dance floor!

FIST PUMP!!!

Cake time. This was during a Justin Beiber song (I think it was Baby, but I could be wrong!) and can you say madness with the ladies! The blowup mics totally add to the photo too!

Peace out from these lovely ladies!

Joanne, Jim, + Rachel really know how to throw a party! Thanks for the fabulous memories!

For family + friends looking for the rest of the gallery, it will be available soon.

jeanie + vivek | west windsor couple photographer

Housekeeping note: I will be away this weekend. I will return phone calls + emails on my return Tuesday morning.

Jeanie + Vivek are celebrating the 5th year of their marriage and what better way to commemorate the occasion than with a photo session! When brainstorming ideas for this session, Jeanie told me that they love drinking wine and I have always wanted to do a session near a corn field – hello fabulousness!!!

Can they be any more gorgeous? (is that even a proper sentence?)

Jeanie is fierce!!!!

jess + vinnie | west windsor maternity photographer

Friday evening was perfect for a maternity session at Rat’s Restaurant on the grounds at Grounds For Sculpture with two beautiful and hilarious people. The temps were in the high 70’s very low 80’s all day with the sun still giving off the summer glow. Wouldn’t have ever thought it was still August in New Jersey!

This huge rat is scary and out of place!! It is pointing to where you should enter to park for the restaurant but still really strange!

Can we talk about pregnancy glow? Jess would probably credit the sun but she looks fab!

Thanks for the laughs on a beautiful evening! I’m beyond excited to meet your little one in a few short weeks Jess + Vinnie!

washington dc photographer get together

Saturday I went down to Washington DC or more specifically the Georgetown area for a photographers together (thanks Michele for driving us!).
Rebecca and her dad drove cross country from Seattle, Washington so he could attend the Glenn Beck rally. While her dad and brother attended the rally, we had lunch, chatted, walked down to the river to get some photos, swapped lenses, chatted, took some headshot photos, chatted, walked back up to M street, chatted, used the restroom, stopped in to Anthropologie, chatted, grabbed something to drink, chatted, restroom break, chatted, group photo, chatted, Kelly left, chatted, walked around, stopped to chat on someone’s stoop, walked back to the parking garage, chatted and then dropped Amy and Rebecca off at the metro. All in all not a whole lot of shooting went on but a whole lot of talking did!

Hello my beauties!!!

Does Kelly not have the most incredible blue eyes? I think she does!

Can’t forget about the hilarious, liberal one who was stuck on a crowded metro with Tea Party-ers!

The paparazzi were in town – must have been someone famous around!

We stopped a gentleman to take our photo so yay for successful group photos!

Coming up later – a blog post from a fabulous maternity session held at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton!

adventures in canning

Anthony and I are trying our hand at canning. A few weeks ago we got a bunch of tomatoes, peppers (okay we’ve been getting a variety of peppers for 5 or so weeks!), and the like from our farm share at Griggstown Quail Farm. I figured let’s put these fresh ingredients to good use by canning! After our second time at it, it’s kinda fun being in the kitchen with my husband. He blanches, peels, and chops the tomatoes while I do the other prep work (i.e. sterilizing jars, boiling water, etc.). I think I’m going to pickle some of the peppers (we have a two gallon size bags full of peppers in the freezer!) and try my hand at pickled jalapenos (they are Anthony’s favorites!)

This was our kitchen after the first time we canned. It sure is messy!

Second time around, I got the special utensils and all!

The spaghetti sauce I used was a version of this one. From trial and error, we discovered we don’t like celery or bell peppers or as much sugar and salt. Also, I used an immersion blender on the second batch so that it wasn’t chunky. Tastes delicious!

Feel free to click on the recipe cards – you can download them that way!

This salsa recipe came from Tasty Kitchen as well. It can be found here. We did more modifying of this recipe, removing the pickling spice (okay we actually put this in this batch and it made it too sweet – almost like cider! so the next time we won’t be adding it), removing the brown sugar and not adding as much regular sugar. We ended up using one of the jars for dinner, hence why it isn’t full!

Feel free to click on the recipe cards – you can download them that way!

I’m still too daunted by canning but way to go on tackling it! Maybe next year for me…

Rebecca - August 30, 2010 - 1:56 pm

Those look DELICIOUS! I’m totally stealing the recipes!

remember everything | evernote

Today marks my one year anniversary with Evernote (and no I’m not one to normally celebrate instances like this one, but I randomly discovered this weekend that my anniversary was coming up!). I felt that all my readers needed to know about them if you didn’t know already!

Evernote’s tag line is remember everything. Can I get an amen?!?! AMEN!! I don’t have to remember everything – this program does it all for me!

Only a few years old, the developers and geniuses behind this concept have revolutionized how the world takes notes, keeps track of their to-do lists, and more. This program can be used on the web, on your mac, on your PC, on your mobile, on your iPad, really wherever! It’s constantly open on my computer, I have it installed on my iPhone and iPad, as well as my work computer. I even have the web clipping elephant in my toolbar, so I can easily clip articles and save pretty much any content from the web.

You can set up different notebooks to house different information. As you can see below, I have one for Anthony (clothing sizes, gift ideas, etc.), a few sewing ones, a Zumba one, a personal one, etc. I have a Premium account, which allows me to have “parent” folders and then sub-folders underneath. To make it easier when I’m on my iPhone or iPad, I named each sub-folder the same title with a more in-depth title on the end. At this time, on mobile devices, there aren’t parent folders, hence why I have similar names. This allows me to find what I’m looking for a little easier (especially when I’m looking for recipes!)

Most of my “being green” notes are notes from books I’ve checked out from the library. I like having all the information in one place, as I’m reading through the books, I will have evernote open (either on my computer or iPad) and put in the details I want to remember. Just a bit ago my husband mentioned how thankful he is that I’ve been doing my research and typing the info into evernote. Even he could potentially access all of this information.

Some of my favorites that I created are my recipe notebooks and tutorial notebook. What is fabulous about the recipe notebooks is I’m able to visit a cooking site, copy the information I want, use the web clipper (elephant in the upper right hand corner), paste it into evernote and then tag or set the URL. I then have all the recipes at my finger tips. There have been many times I’m at the grocery store not 100% on an ingredient, pull out my phone and open the evernote iPhone app, search and there it is! I’m also being green and not printing out recipes.

I do the exact same thing with tutorials I found, whether they are photography related, party related (I’m a little obsessed with Hostess with the Mostess blog), or whatever it is. I save anything sewing related for those subfolders only but it’s the same principle.

How to actually clip something from the web: I highly recommend installing the web clipping elephant, this will allow you to clip immediately from the webpage. I’m on a Mac and I have no idea where it’s located on a PC (sorry!), but for me it’s in the upper right hand corner. After I copy the content I like from the web, I click the Elephant, and Paste to Evernote. It may take it a minute (depending on if you have Evernote open or how large the photos and content is), but an Evernote window will pop up asking you what Notebook you’d like the note to go. Then you can close the window and it saves the note. Very easy!!!

Evernote also has a tips blog and several photographers tell how they use it for their business. But you don’t have to be a photographer or a business owner to use this program. I highly recommend it to each of you – I challenge you to start using this tool to help remember everything for you!

I started using Evernote based on your recommendation for couponing…helps me keep everything organized and deals I want to pick up at particular stores. Very useful. I need to use it for more things though!
