five on friday | central jersey photographer

1. Yesterday I went in for a consultation about getting my two wisdom teeth out – I’ve seriously been putting this off for far too long. And what was I thinking waiting until I got to New Jersey to do it. I waited for 40 minutes before I even saw the surgeon just for a 15 minute consultation to have me sign a paper and come up with a plan. Stupid stupid stupid. And now I’m anxious and worried! Quick poll – if you’ve had your wisdom teeth out did you do general anesthesia (IV – knocked you out completely) or laughing gas?

2. I love being able to teach Zumba Gold at the seminary’s gym but I’m itching to teach at another place as well. If you know of a location that is looking to hire, please let me know! I’ve contacted several with no response – I know there is a need for Zumba Gold in this area!!!!

3. Peter Conrey, a wedding and portrait photographer in the Memphis area posted this brilliant blog post about The Creative I’s on lbobi.com. If you are creative at all (you do not need to be a business owner or a photographer to read it), this is a fabulous read on the different stages of creativity.

4. The Hunger Games – if you haven’t read this series you need to! It’s beyond addicting and literally the world stopped turning until I was finished with them!

5. Last Saturday I did a brief intro course to the Oh Snap! workshops at Princeton Library – turn out was great especially with the rainy, cold weather that we had. Here are a few snaps! (There is still space for two more people for the February Oh Snap! Workshopemail me TODAY before it sells out!!)

I had general anesthesia for my wisdom teeth. It was easier than I expected.

Kristen Wynn - February 12, 2011 - 10:05 pm

I had the general anesthesia and I was fine. Looking back, I did not like my surgeon at all and would have made different choices, but I was 17, so what did I know? ๐Ÿ™‚

Whitney Kovash - February 18, 2011 - 10:02 am

I just had laughing gas and some meds that pretty much knocked me out. I did mine in the dentist’s office. I agree is was easier than expected and if you only have 2…so lucky!

Jaidean - February 18, 2011 - 3:53 pm

Looks like a great turnout for your workshop! I had general anethesia for my wisdom teeth. And I loved the Hunger Games too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Shey - February 20, 2011 - 7:46 pm

So great!!! Love that your workshop had such a great turnout!! What an awesome location for it.

Sarang - February 20, 2011 - 9:11 pm

I actually did local anesthetics – and took out 3…
Maybe they don’t do local in the states, but it worked out great.
Two hours later, I was teaching a class… no problem ๐Ÿ™‚

Re: Zumba….how many do you need to hold a class. I am in a playgroup and think I could muster up quite a few moms if I had a price or limit. Location could be tricky but I think we could come up with something if that would interest you?

home ec project | kim learns to sew

First up is Project 13 – a jersey wrap skirt. I made this actually at the first of January and just forgot to take photos of it! I would model it for you all but I’m pasty and it’s way too cold!!!! I actually got this fabric while in Oklahoma for the holidays at Hancock Fabric. I really wish we had a HF and Hobby Lobby near us! Although it may be a good thing because I’m not buying fabric all the time!

As I’ve mentioned before, our little seminary community continues to grow! And it seems like everyone is having boys! Hello easy shower gifts! I knocked this out yesterday by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin. I was making the last burp cloth and I was running out of thread quickly. Thank goodness I had *just* enough to get me finished!

Yay for Home Ec projects! It has been a long time since I’ve seen anyone post about them – I think we’ve all been on a Home Ec hiatus… Anyways, I LOVE how your skirt turned out! That fabric is perfect, and so Spring-y! Great, great work.

oh snap! february workshop

Oh Snap! is a workshop that teaches parents how to take better pictures of their kids. It focuses on concepts you can easily put into practice, just by understanding lighting, composition, perspective and age appropriate techniques. Participants will walk away with an incredible presentation manual that includes cheat sheets and quick tips for common situations which will help them improve their photos immediately… just by taking the time to assess light, change up their angle, and remember a few quick tips.

Topics include:
* training your eye to find the light,
* composition and perspective,
* lens and focal length selection,
* review of exposure,
* auto and semi-manual settings.

This is not open to professional photographers or those hoping to start a business.

This is SOLD OUT!

Email me to get on the waitlist for the next workshop!

The details:
* this can be purchased as a gift for a loved one – just make sure they are available on the 20th
* no refunds – it may be transferred to someone else or used at a different time
* should have a camera (doesn’t have to be an dSLR, but it does need to be able to change to a manual mode of some sort – if you are confused, email me with your camera details)
*be prepared to learn a ton of information!

I have teamed up with the wonderful people at Smart Talk Women and State Theatre in New Brunswick to photograph incredible women every month for the next few months! The first was brilliant with the funny, witty, and beautiful Nora Ephron (writer, director, producer, blogger extraordinaire!). She is best known for When Harry Met Sally…, Silkwood, Sleepless in Seattle, and most recently Julie & Julia. Thanks for looking!!

So cool! Great images!!!

san antonio up close

As I’ve mentioned in several posts, Kelly and I spent our last day walking around the Riverwalk in San Antonio (if you haven’t clicked on the link to Kelly’s blog, you must! She got some awesome headshot photos for me to use in the future!!!!). There are many reasons I’m glad we got out on that last day and one is it forced me to be a bit more creative in thinking “outside the box!!!”

The view from our balcony!!

I am pretty much laying on the ground in this one (while in a skirt mind you!)

Last stop was definitely the Alamo. We went by it late one night and since it was right around the corner from our hotel we figured we should get a photo or two during broad daylight! How on earth I got a photo with no one in it is beyond me (except for the park ranger in the lower righthand corner!)

This photo definitely made the entire trip! While we were just getting photos of the Alamo, these three soldiers stopped to ask us why there were SO many photographers around (way more than the normal amount that would be visiting this touristy spot!). We explained the convention and then I asked if they’d like their photo taken. What an honor to meet them, take their photo, and pass it along to them. Thank you for all you do for our country!!!

This should be my last blog post about my time in San Antonio!! To go back to some place that doesn’t have snow would be HEAVENLY!!! And stay tuned for photos from the live birth I just shot!!
