playing catch up | west windsor family photographer

HAPPY OCTOBER!!!

Have you been hearing the crickets chirp over here? Oops! I went away to the Outer Banks one weekend in September, came back to photograph new student orientation at the seminary, and then turned around to travel to Colorado. Playing catch up is always fun!!!

Here are a few photos from Colorado and I promise to come back to share photos from Outer Banks, more from Colorado and some incredible clients over the coming days and weeks!

The aspen trees were breathtaking!

I can’t believe this little one is already one! You may remember her from 6 months ago, one year ago, and before she was born. She is a walking fool, loves both her mommy and daddy something-fierce, and has such a serious and contemplative temperament! Can’t you just hear her giggling in that second photo?

five on friday | west windsor family photographer

1. I haven’t done an update on our garden in awhile. It is looking really pitiful right now, in that our tomato plants look awful and nothing is growing except rosemary and lavender! It’s a far cry from what it looked like in it’s prime in July! I’m going to finish pulling up the rest of the stuff this week, and begin planting fall crops. The good thing is we still have our CSA farm share and have no shortage of amazing local veggies (and we actually got a “baby” watermelon last week!).

2. On a whim, I purchased the Canon 50L lens to add to my ever-growing collection of L glass lenses. Woohoo!!

3. This coming weekend I’m heading down to the Outer Banks for a girls weekend (you may remember two years ago we did the same thing!). Luckily the house is on the ocean side of Duck verse the sound part and no damage was done by Hurricane Irene. Bring on the good times!

4. Is anyone else patiently waiting for Apple to announce the iPhone 5?? The rumors are stating that pre-orders will be at the end of September with a launch date of October 7th. I desperately need a new phone, so much so that I can’t write texts or emails on my phone without going crazy turning my phone one way or the other to get the letter I need typed.

5. I’ve mentioned a time or two about how I also teach Zumba in the area. Since the spring I’ve been teaching ZumbAtomic to kids at the Hamilton YMCA. I was lucky enough to have some really sweet girls this summer. On the last day of class we put on a show for the parents and luckily one mom agreed to take a group photo with my camera. She was a bit intimidated by the size but rocked it out! FYI: there are two ZumbAtomic classes starting on Thursday September 15th, one for 4-7 year olds at 4:00 and 8-12 year olds at 5:00. The classes typically run for 8 weeks. You can register online.

Safe travels, and enjoy your weekend in the Outer Banks! No doubt you will be taking some beautiful photos down there.

Kim, you’re looking awesome!! Congrats on the 50L, be prepared to want to cuddle with it @ night 😉

julia + john | princeton child photographer

It’s been two years since I first met Julia on the campus of Princeton University. She now has a little brother John and another sibling on the way. It’s amazing how grown up she looks at 4 years old (especially when I compare her to my nephew Randon who is a bit older than she is!).

I love that in the first photo John is holding a piece of brick and the second he has acorns in front of him. All boy!! (a handsome one at that!)

“Hey Julia give John a hug!” She lifts him off the ground and gets close to the neck-grab!

Things haven’t changed much for Julia in regards to wearing twirly skirts and spinning in circles! There is nothing better than that carefree abandonment children have!

Thankfully Irene did not damage our place minus water in the basement. All of our Christmas decor is currently in our living room drying out because the wind blew water in through a window/vent in the basement. Luckily the only thing we’ve lost is boxes. I know many others cannot say the same, including our neighbors that lost valuable items in their storage bin.

We live very close to the D+R Canal, which saying it exceeded it’s banks is an understatement. Here is a before + after from the same bridge, same 35mm lens from yesterday. I’m planning to go back out there in an hour or so to photograph what it looks like 24 hours after.

That’s the golf course! (in relation to the photo above it’s to camera right).

A usually non-existent waterfall coming from the golf course into the canal over the walk/run/bike bath.
