our photo session in philly

I’ve been talking about hiring a professional photographer to capture and celebrate this blissful time in our lives since right after we got married. It’s been over 6 years, each fall I think this is the year! 2011 was definitely the year of photos of Anthony and I!

I’m not sure I talked much about it, but this summer (end of June/beginning of July) Anthony got a nasty case of e.coli (and unfortunately we still don’t know where he got it from!). He was very miserable (which in turned made this wife miserable), didn’t eat much, and lost a little over 15 pounds in two weeks. It wasn’t an ideal way to lose weight but it didn’t hurt either! Right around the same time, I picked up my Zumba class load and started seeing my weight drop too. Enter in the perfect time for photographs when we are both feeling great!

I contacted a good friend of mine, Bernadette of BUPhotography out of Philadelphia, about doing a session with the idea of a Mad Men inspired photo shoot. I have loved her shooting style since the day I met her and I knew she’d be on board with just about anything I suggested. Anthony has once or twice thought of himself as Don Draper from Mad Men, so I knew he’d do whatever I asked too! Win win!

We met up in Northern Liberties in Philadelphia (and wouldn’t ya know the location once was the Schmidt’s Brewery – it was destiny!) on a perfect Thursday morning. Being the beginning of November I worried about it being too cold for the dress I picked out but the sun was shining and I had my honey by my side!

I believe most everyone has received our Christmas card by now (hence why I was waiting to share a few with you all!) and if not, here it is! I’m in love with every single photo Bernadette captured of the two of us. Picking a few to share was tough stuff!!!

A bit of causal photos first (and we had no idea that our outfits would match that wall below!)

Hello Darlings!

last holiday session | west windsor family photographer

As I sit here finally listening to Christmas music this holiday season and finishing packing up this awesome family’s order, I remembered I hadn’t had a chance to blog it yet! Janel and Nate are neighbors of ours (we even have an Oklahoma connection) and they haven’t had a family photo taken since their oldest was a toddler. It was beyond time! I went over to help Janel put together their outfits – and they had everything in their closets already!! Love when that happens. The perfect amount color and complimentary colors without everyone matching!

We were blessed with a gorgeous fall-like Saturday morning right after Thanksgiving. And look at those two kiddos – they held that position for longer than I have seen two siblings hug! This was the perfect session and family to end the crazy busy holiday season!

They sure thought I was funny – or maybe it was just Isaac loved to laugh/scream!

Love a daddy’s girl!

I love the opportunity to spend a quiet Sunday morning with a family at their home! JD and Ryan had me smitten the minute I walked in the door, with trucks and cars in hand. We went out in search of a deer (no luck finding it again!), picked up many sticks, had a few races and then headed back in to read a few stories. Handsome little guys they are!

thankful.

thankful. it’s all over social media, the 30 days of thankfulness. i didn’t participate this year and didn’t get a chance to post this on thanksgiving. i am more than grateful and thankful this year. (and these are in no particular order!!!)

  • for Zumba and the individuals who attend my classes that have touched my life in ways I will never be able to put in words. Zumba has given me a confidence I lost when I went off to college and stopped dancing. I’m a more fit person because of Zumba.
  • for photography and the doors it has opened.
  • for the incredible friends I have met through photography that lift me up on my darkest days, party hard at get-togethers, and push me to be a better photographer.
  • for my clients. each and every one of you inspires me on a daily basis. the emails and love I receive when you have tears in your eyes after viewing your slideshow or receiving your order. that makes me more than thankful!
  • for the gift of creativity and the creative people in my life.
  • for gardening and local farming. cherry grove farm and our own plot have produced plentiful this year. there is nothing better than looking at your plate and thinking you know exactly where everything came from. not sure if there is anything sweeter than biting into a carrot you grew yourself (maybe a tomato, but I don’t eat those right off the vine!).
  • for the ability to cook good food on a regular basis.
  • for the passion to read – this year my goal was to read 50 books. so far I’m at 90!!! I would love to round it off to 100, but I don’t think I’m going to have the time!
  • for the community we live in. I can pretty much knock on anyone’s door and find what I need in a pinch. we have weekly OU football viewing parties with other Sooner fanatics, in the summer there are weekly cookouts, birthday parties to attend, game nights, craft nights, and everything else that goes with being grad students!
  • for my nephews that have seen more in their short lives than most will ever see, who continue to love unconditionally, and fill my heart with so much joy every.single.day.

  • for my mom. no explanation needed except I miss her something fierce. she’s awesome. (and somehow I went back several visits and there are no photos of us together – must change this Christmas!!!!)
  • for my dad and brothers. they always know how to keep things interesting.
  • for anthony’s entire family. their graciousness in adding me to the family is something I never knew could exist.
  • for the gift of life.
  • and having a roof over my head.
  • for a God who loves me unconditionally.
  • for anthony who has been my rock for over 9 years. it hasn’t been easy being married to me, I know, but he loves me nonetheless. we’ve lived in three different states since we got married (and in countless apartments!!) and I truly believe being out from under what is familiar forced us to grow closer. he knows how to make me laugh, he senses before I do when I need a hug or a laugh, he steps up in the kitchen when I’m out of the house 4 out of 7 nights a week to prepare awesome homemade meals, he is the man I knew I’d married from the moment I met him.

these are the things I’m most thankful for!

We are thankful for you!

the b family | princeton family photographer

Carrie is a southern girl with the cutest accent, sweetest personality, and incredibly perfect family. I love someone who isn’t afraid to ask for help and when it came to their outfits she wanted some advice. We picked out the little guy’s sweater and built from there, adding the punch of magenta to spice it up. After several reschedules, everything lined up perfectly last weekend for a trip to Princeton University’s campus. One thing we did not take into consideration when we met around 4 is the hordes of people coming back from the last football game of the season. I can’t tell you if they won or lost, but I can say we say an abundance of orange (which is not a color I like being a University of Oklahoma alum!!!). Luckily we found some great spaces that not too many people were and let the kiddos run around.

Money!!!! Everyone is looking and super adorable to boot!

Long red hair – yes please!

Can’t not get a photo of these two lovebirds!!

What a darling family!!!!! Love these!

new hampshire in the fall

The main reason why we chose Boston in October was to see the northeast fall foliage spectacular. Obviously I’ve hinted a time or two about how we were a tad disappointed but driving around New Hampshire was a bit fun (though stressful for this driver!).

Our first stop was Brookdale Fruit Farm in Hollis, New Hampshire to pick apples. This was a first for all four of us – Anthony was on a mission to pick as many as possible. To slow him down, I had him throw an apple up in the air for me to photograph!

My adorable parents!

Probably talking football.

We actually didn’t get a pumpkin but my mom and Anthony wanted to pick this up as if it’s ours!

We drove and drove and drove and drove throughout New Hampshire, got lost a time or two, but somehow ended up back to Boston by evening!

In an attempt to get a photo of the 4 of us, we pulled over on a fairly deserted road. Of course in the middle a car comes up to see if we knew how to get somewhere. We were just as lost as they were! Of course Anthony with the remote took this photo. Cracks me up!

Money!

Couldn’t decide if I liked this photo in b+w or color!

Hopefully there will be a next time and if that’s the case, I sure hope the leaves will be better to us! (though I’m glad we went the weekend we did because it snowed 30″ or something ridiculous like that the following weekend!)
