the future

Last month I wrote a post on my business blog about A and gave a small glimpse of what our future holds. We have been in Princeton for 6 years now, the longest place we’ve ever lived as a couple. Princeton has truly become home to us, but I will be 100% honest, I don’t want it to be my “forever home”. The community we live in is wonderful, full of vibrant families from all over the country and world, with many children to keep us all on our toes, ability to knock on a neighbors door to borrow an egg or a teaspoon of nutmeg, gather for weekly cookouts, and so much more. I am already mourning the day we pack up our home into a truck and say our final goodbye to Princeton, the seminary, my clients, and our neighbors/friends.

sometimes we do get dressed up!

I’m getting a little ahead of myself on the whole saying goodbye stuff!!! Anthony is in the thick of job applications right now. Deadlines began October 1 and continue until positions are filled. Interviews will happen in the coming months, and hopefully (keeping my fingers crossed!!!) we will know by early spring where we are heading for the 2014-2015 school year.

I was having a brief conversation with the seminary’s president and wife last week about our future. They asked me where I was hoping we’d land a job, and my honest answer is I don’t know (and I don’t really have a say until the schools themselves give us a definite yes or no!). The jobs are all over the country and if I got my hopes up on one place in particular, I will be utterly devastated if we aren’t offered a job. This academia job hunting business is tough!!!!

I pray every day that whatever is in our future, that it’s the right path for us as a family. I have put full trust and faith in God, that we will not be lead astray.

More updates to come!

XOXO,

Kim

I am curious to see where you will end up! Good luck to Anthony with the job interviews. Hope you are not too stressed. Also, cannot believe it’s been 6 years! It actually gives me hope because we still have about 5 years left and it feels like so far away, but then I think that I have know you 6 years and that went by quickly!

anniversaries

As a way to connect my desire to blog and my photography business, I decided to separate out the personal side of things to a new blog! I have lots of ideas swirling in my head about future posts and am anxious to go on a journey with each and every one of you (my readers of course!).

Just a few weeks ago, Anthony and I made it to our 11th year dating anniversary. Holy Moly! That number is a bit surreal, not only because we’ve lasted over a decade without killing one another but it also makes me feel incredibly old! In April I turned 30. I am still a tad in denial about that number.

Side story: while setting up an account on healthcare.gov (which I had no problems navigating at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night – lame I know!!), they asked me my age in the following categories: under 30, 30-65, and above 65. WHAT 30 YEAR OLD WANTS TO BE GROUPED WITH 65 YEAR OLDS?!?!? End side story.

11 years together, 8 years as Mr. and Mrs., 3 different states we’ve called home, 3 bachelor’s degree (Anthony was an overachiever and double majored), 1 master’s degree, and 1 oh-so close PhD degree, a successful photography business, some heartbreak, lots and lots of traveling, a bit of growing up – man we’ve come a long way since October 2002!!

I would never have made it to 30 years on this earth without A by my side. This is one of oh-so-many posts to come dedicated to this man who asked me to marry him in 2004 and continues to say yes every single day.

XOXO,

Kim

Congrats

the m family | lawrenceville maternity session

Lovely maternity session in Lawrenceville at a park that I just discovered. It was the perfect setting as there were very few people using the park and once we were finished, Christian was able to go to the real part of the park, the playground! It’s been a little over 3 years since I last saw this beautiful family, when Christian was just born. In a few short weeks, the latest member will join the family. I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival and I know they are too! Enjoy!

eva | princeton newborn photographer

It is always an honor to document the growth and changes of families in the Princeton area. I first met Vinnie & Jess almost 4 years ago when they were expecting Hannah and now a new addition is here! Hannah has always been a fairly serious child, at their maternity session this summer, I could see that she is coming into her own. She is an incredible big sister, loving on Eva any chance she can get. My favorite moment was after we were finished with the newborn posed photos, Hannah came over to give Eva kisses all over her head without any prompting! Melted my heart.

Crushing on this color combo right now!

anthony | princeton commercial photographer

Some of my photographer friends do a “mine on monday” post which typically highlight photos of their children participating in activities (dance, swim, soccer) or vacations. It’s the perfect way to force us, as photographers, to actually take photos of our families AND edit them. That last one (editing) is a big kicker. [I’m still really sad that I have only edited one photo from our trip to the UK last July but one day I will get to it!] This is essential my “mine on monday” post, even if it’s not Monday and it’s my husband, not a child.

Anthony is [keep your fingers crossed with me] going to graduate next May with his PhD. He is applying to jobs as we speak all over the country as well as working hard to finish the first draft of his dissertation. It’s just a tad stressful in our household!! A few weeks back, I met him at the school’s brand new library, to get new headshot photos. Academia has a few social networking sites and he’s been receiving several hits on them. Pressure is on to have a professional photo to showcase him and his personality a little (skinny tie = hip and sophisticated, at least that’s what I tell myself!)

He posted one of these photos on Facebook, and all the comments made me chuckle. They all think he looks like he should be in the board room demanding you to give over your money! What do you think? Maybe just a little different than “I want to come join your faculty and teach undergrads!!” Either way, I think he’s one fine looking gentleman and if these photos help him land a job, then I have done my job right! 🙂

Thanks for looking!
