newborn album | product spotlight

This is hands-down my favorite product that’s offered at Kim Schmidt Photography – the 8×8, 20 page custom photo cover album. Each client picks the images and theme, I set out to design it, get the approval from mom+dad, then send it off to the lab. They are beautiful in person, with full spread + nice thick pages to complement the rest of your order. It’s perfect to display in the baby’s room, on a coffee table, at the office, or anywhere in between.

My second favorite product is the mini accordion. This is the perfect addition to the above album, each order comes with 3 identical complementary accordions. They are small enough to fit in a purse, magnetic to stick on the fridge, and the best gift to give the grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

the new year

Hold it a minute, it is January 18th of 2014. WHAT?!?!? We are over halfway through the first month of this year!! I’m taking the time now to catch up on this blog + dedicating myself to crossing off items on the to-do list that have been sitting there for months and month before the spring craziness hits.

I’ve never been a resolution-maker, but this year I have a few simple, random ones that I wanted to share on here.
I love drinking water, plain cool water, no lemon or other flavors. That is typically my go-to drink. Anthony got me addicted to Coca-Cola when we were dating in college, so I do drink that occasionally. I detest the smell of coffee, so that’s not a drink I’d ever think to try. You can see where I’m going with this, right? On a whim back in December, I picked up some Trader Joe’s Pomegranate White Tea. I gave it a whirl and sorta liked it. My first resolution is to enjoy hot tea more! This is one flavor that I can get behind and I’m proud to say that I’m almost finished with the box.

This resolution is more Anthony’s but I’m 100% on board too. We are planning to make the most of the last few months of living in Princeton. I’m a huge fan of shopping locally and we are hoping that the Trenton Farmer’s Market becomes more of a habit for us. Right now there isn’t much produce (obviously!!) but in the spring it’s going to be magical.

Next one is A’s resolution and that’s to wear more scarves. This won’t be a year round resolution, considering all of his scarves are winter-esque, but he does look mighty fine wearing them! Though thinking about it, now that it’s warmed up a smidgen since the “polar vortex” hit, he hasn’t put one one in awhile!

Last one for now is to get out with my camera/iPhone. Earlier this past week, I woke to a very foggy morning. I really wanted to capture the moment, but also had to shower. I hurried through my morning routine, grabbed my phone and big camera, walked across the street and was able to execute exactly what I envisioned in my head. Not to toot my own horn, but this rarely happens for me. I end up missing the sunset, or not having the time to stop to get the deer in the meadow, or whatever it is. About 20 minutes after I walked back indoors, the fog lifted and the sun shown down. It was beautiful to see outside our window.

the boys | oklahoma family photographer

I’ve been a member of the Schmidt family for over 8 years now and seeing these boys grow into young men has been fun! (apparently I didn’t blog last years, but take a look at 2011 and 2010!!!!) Every year I create a small 5×7 monthly calendar for my mother-in-law, so it’s imperative that I get updated photos of the boys. We usually are scrambling on the last day to get these taken and par for the course, that’s what happened again this year. My in-laws built a beautiful home on multiple acres of land, which made for the perfect backdrop for this year’s shoot!

Moses (the pup!) adorably sat by Noah’s feet, patiently waiting for his turn at the camera!

He is a precious guy and brought life into the family after the sudden death of the first family dog Jake. Unlike Bella, who is deathly afraid of my big black camera, Moses followed me around and posed for me on multiple occasions. He is simple adorable!

princeton family ymca | commercial photographer

It’s no secret that I’ve been teaching Zumba since 2010. I started teaching at the Princeton Family YMCA last fall. This summer the Y did a complete renovation on their facility and it is gorgeous!! I was asked a few weeks back if I could come in to photograph the space for promotional materials. I’m a huge believer of the YMCA principles (in high school I was even a camp counselor at an overnight YMCA camp in Oklahoma!) and I am truly honored to share the new space with all my readers. If you are looking for a gym in the area, I highly recommend the Princeton Family YMCA. With a full facility membership, you have access to the pool, the beautiful renovated wellness center, basketball courts, and all the group exercise classes offered. It is a steal to be a member of the YMCA.

Without further ado, the beautiful space!
