2014 special olympics games

The week of June 14, I had the absolute privilege of photographing the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games hosted by New Jersey.

First up, the opening ceremonies at the Prudential Center in Newark. I loved having all-access backstage and experiencing all the athletes coming into the arena.

The first day of competition had me out at the Mercer County Park, photographing the opening of the corporate park as well as softball and soccer for Team Southern California.
Day two I was out at the Princeton University campus, capturing precious moments out at the track+field as well as the aquatics center. It was wonderful to have both of these venues right next to one another, especially needing to go back and forth to capture specific athletes competing.

I freelanced for Team Southern California, so that’s why you may see more of them than other teams/moments. That week was a life-changer for me and I am so honored to have taken time out of my normal photography schedule to spend time with these amazing champions!
